Title: Chief Deputy Director, Operations
Christopher Cruz is the Chief Deputy Director of Operations at the California Department of Technology, accepting that appointment in June 2015. Chris oversees the delivery of California data center services to over 400 state and local government entities.He is responsible for the states consolidated Email systems, (approximately 186,000 mail boxes) and for operating the largest telecommunications network in the state, the California General Enterprise Network.He is also responsible for the Office of Professional Development and Training, the State’s Broadband and Digital literacy efforts, the delivery of the new Office of Digital Innovation and Technology Engagement to provide technology support for the Open Data and Open Source initiatives in the State of California, the State’s California Project Management Office and our Customer Delivery Division.
Prior to that, Mr. Cruz has spent 12 of his 24 years of State service in multiple positions which have included chief information officer at the California Department of Health Care Services since 2010. He was chief information officer at the California Department of Food and Agriculture from 2007 to 2010, information technology manager at the California Department of Health Services from 2004 to 2007, business development and project manager at Network Design Associates from 2003 to 2004, director of information technology consulting at Eskel Porter Consulting from 2001 to 2003 and senior project manager at Lockheed Martin-Carta from 2000 to 2001.
Mr. Cruz earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from California State University at Sacramento and attended the UC Davis Executive Program in Leadership Excellence.
